We visit the Saint Peter Abbey, the medieval Castle of the Counts, the Van
Eyck monument, St. Bavo’s cathedral with the famous triptych painting of
the Adoration of the Mystic Lamb by Jan Van Eyck, the Market Place, City
Hall, Friday Market, the historic Cannon, the Folklore Museum, the
Veerleplace, Vleeshuis (old butcher’s house), Galgenhuisje (gallows
house), Graslei, the Churches of Saint James, Saint Michael, Saint
Nicholas.
Bruges: Bruges is a perfectly preserved medieval city, on the
Unesco World Heritage list. It’s a joy to stroll through its winding
streets lined with gorgeous old buildings and narrow canals.
We take a tour of the canals by boat, visit the St. Saviours cathedral and
see the houses of the Steenstreet, the Market, the Belfry, the Guild-houses,
the Provincial Government Palace, the statue of Breydel and De Coninck,
the Vlamingenstreet, the Van Eyckplace, the Burg with its historic City
Hall including its Gothic room and the adjoining Basilica of the Holy
Blood, the old courthouse, the Provost’s House, the Fish Market and the
Tanners House, the Rozenhoedkaai, the Dyver, the Groeninge museum with its
famous collection of Flemish primitives (entrance optional), the Old Saint
John’s Hospital and Memlinck museum, the Church of Our Lady, the Walplaats,
the God-Houses (almshouses), the Beguinage, the Rampart of the Beguines,
the old ammunition tower, the windmills, the Lake of Love.
Damme: Damme is a picturesque small medieval town located 7 km
northeast of Bruges. The place flourished around the thirteenth century,
when it was still connected to the North Sea.
We show you the waterside walk up to the smuggler path, the City Hall
(entrance optional), the house of Slotel.
